CHAPTER III: Alexicai
Alexicai sighed as she sat down in an empty compartment by herself. She had no one to sit with, but she was okay with that. Her friends probably didn't even miss her. Alexicai pulled out her wand and twirled it around, making green sparks fly. She heard the compartment door open and out of the corner of her eye she say a flash of blond hair.
"Well, well, well," sneered Draco Malfoy as he entered. "If it isn't the one and only Alexicai Dragonbreath." The way he said her name made Alexicai's skin crawl. Turning to Malfoy, she said in an equally snooty voice, "Hello, Draco. Haven't seen you around. Have you been hiding behind your mum all summer, hoping she'll protect you?" Draco's smirk fell immediately but returned just as quickly. "Whatever I've been doing has been a lot more fun than spending all of your time in that rotten dunghole you call home," he remarked. Alexicai rolled her eyes. "You're just sour because I'm smarter than you. That's the only insult you can ever throw my way. What do you want anyway?" she asked, raising her eyebrows. "Surely you wouldn't come hang out with me for no good reason." Draco straightened and his face turned to stone. "I was simply passing by and saw you sitting alone, so I thought you might want some company," he said, his tone of voice changing slightly. Alexicai scoffed. "I enjoy being alone. And even if I did want company, I'd think of someone better to sit with than you."
With that, Alexicai stuffed her wand in her pocket and walked out of the compartment doors leaving Draco sour faced and alone. Alexicai walked past some open doors revealing many different types of witches and wizards: a nervous young witch practicing spells; a pair of sixth years snogging; a Hufflepuff wizard tending to a plant in his lap; and a Ravenclaw with her face stuck in a book. Alexicai never really acknowledged the diversity at Hogwarts, the different talents, hobbies, and interests. Alexicai passed the trolley witch and purchased a Chocolate Frog. She finally found her friends, all clumped together in one compartment. "There she is!" exclaimed Scarlett, a friend Alexicai had known since they were five. "Where've you been?" Evan asked. "Probably chewing out Draco for showing his pale, pointy face on the train," Blair joked, and when Alexicai nodded, said, "How well do I know you, Lexi?" Alexicai cringed at her childhood nickname. "Please don't," she said through clenched teeth. Her friends laughed.
Evan piped up. "Hey, so we were discussing what pranks we should pull on the first years this year. Last year we..." He droned on, but Alexicai wasn't listening. She stared out the window. She could see the castle from there. Welcome to another year at Hogwarts, Alexicai thought. How nuts was Dumbledore's speech going to be this year, she wondered. Deep in thought she didn't notice her friends trying to get her attention. "Earth to Alexicai!" Scarlett said. Alexicai shook her head, as if to clear it from unecessary thoughts. "So what do you think?" Blair asked. "Sounds great," Alexicai lied. She hadn't even heard the idea, but she knew it was terrible anyway. Every year they changed the pranks to the ones Alexicai suggested because they were way better.
Alexicai pulled out her Chocolate Frog and tore it open. Dumbledore's face smiled slyly up at her. Alexicai sighed and went back to staring out the window. Hogwarts awaits...
